Testagen is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Lys-Glu-Asp-Gly, KEDG) from the Khavinson short-peptide series. It contains no steroid nucleus and is unrelated to androgens chemically; it is a four-residue peptide. It has the molecular formula C₁₇H₂₉N₅O₉, a molecular weight of approximately 447.44 g/mol. Its sequence is Lys-Glu-Asp-Gly (KEDG). KEDG is reported to penetrate cultured cells and their nuclei, to bind deoxyribooligonucleotides with sequence preference, and to associate with histones H1, H2B, H3 and H4.
