VIP (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide) is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide belonging to the secretin–glucagon peptide superfamily. It has the molecular formula C 147 H 237 N 43 O 43 S, a molecular weight of approximately 3326.8 g/mol, and CAS number 40077-57-4. First characterized from intestinal extracts, the peptide is widely distributed across the central and peripheral nervous systems and has been studied extensively in receptor-binding biochemistry.
